WEEK IN REVIEW: The advent of anti-dumping

Bulk ferro-alloys prices rose for a second week running in western markets as supply tightened, even as prices held steady in India and China.
Silico-manganese is trading at an eight-year high in Europe and a two–year high in the US as suppliers raised prices for a fourth week in a row, partly in response to higher raw material costs. Prices increases also accelerated for both high-carbon and low-carbon ferro-chrome on both sides of the Atlantic, on reduced supply from producers.
A delayed shipment caused a scramble for prompt material in Europe propelling high-carbon ferro-chrome prices to $1.25-1.20/lb ddp, last seen in May 2011.
The industry is still waiting for the first quarter 2017 benchmark to be settled.
